Surprise!
Nature always serves up surprises, and here is one that simply stopped me in my tracks. In a small and quite old residential neighborhood in Stuart Florida, I came upon trees full of these extraordinary blooms. It is a pseudobombax ellipticum, and its common name is shaving brush tree. Who could ever have imagined that such flowers, with delicate silken threads and blazing color, would emerge from the dark, woody buds on this tree?
